Board of School Directors

The Board of School Directors is a nine member political body elected by the residents of the Upper Dublin School District. The superintendent and district solicitor also sit on the board, but are non-voting members.

Art Levinowitz, President

Art, currently serving his fifth four-year term as a School Board Member, is married to Lili, co-author of the international recognized Music Together program, and professor at Rowan University. He earned a Bachelors degree and Masters degree from SUNY at Buffalo in Music Education, and another Masters in Educational Administration and Supervision from Pace University in New York City. Art holds a Ph.D. from Temple University in the Psychology of Music. He grew up in the lower east-side of New York City and for eight years taught music in Brooklyn, New York. His first love is music and prior to teaching he performed regularly with various Jazz, Latin and Disco bands. He and his family have lived in Maple Glen since 1987 and he is retired from the New Jersey State Department of Education. Art currently serves as President of the Joint Operating Committee for the Eastern Center for Arts and Technology. He has been active member of the Upper Dublin Education Foundation where he served as President for over 10 years. He is currently a director on the Foundation. Art was elected President of the Board in December, 2013.


Joan Ryder Ludwig, Vice President

Joan and her husband, Rob, have been residents of Upper Dublin since 1988. Their two children, Daniel and Michelle, are both 2005 Upper Dublin graduates. Joan’s 30-year career in human factors and cognitive engineering focused primarily on designing human-computer interfaces and computer-based training. Joan has a Bachelor’s degree from Brown, and a PhD from Brandeis in psychology. She served on the Educational Advisory Committee (EAC) for six years prior to her election to the Board in November 2011.

Joseph Chmielewski

Joe, his wife Sharon, and their young family took up residence in Upper Dublin in 1991, largely because of the excellent reputation of the Upper Dublin schools.  Joe has served on the School Board since 2001.  Joe is a 1976 Penn State Industrial Engineering graduate and worked as an I.E., as plant engineer, and as plant manager.  As Facilities Committee and the District Wide Facilities Task Force chair, Joe provides the necessary oversight to the design and construction of the new Upper Dublin High School.  Joe is the immediate past president of the  Montgomery County Intermediate Unit Board and a trustee of the MCIU Education Foundation.


Vanessa Good

Vanessa, mother of Brian, who was a member of the class of 2008 at Upper Dublin High School has been married to her husband, Michael for 31 years and they have resided in Upper Dublin since 1995. Vanessa is a 1983 graduate of Denison University. Vanessa serves as a member of the Board of Directors and Chairs the Personnel Committee. In addition, she is President of the Upper Dublin Education Foundation. She was elected to the School Board in November of 2007.

Nita Hester

Nita Hester was elected to the Board in November 2013. She and her husband, John, have been residents of Upper Dublin for 33 years. Their children, Allison, Class of 1999 and Adam, Class of 2003 were educated in Upper Dublin schools. Nita received her bachelor’s degree in History from Washington College in 1976 and her Juris Doctor degree from Temple University in 1979. She practices law in Montgomery County, PA.

Michael Resnick

Michael, appointed to the Board in April of 2006, married to Nancy, and the father of three children educated in Upper Dublin – Lisa, Class of 2005; Lauren, Class of 2008, and Lindsay, Class of 2009.  The Resnick’s have been residents of Upper Dublin since 1990.  Michael graduated from Temple University in 1973 with a B.A., from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM), with a D.O. in 1977, and also received his M.B.A. from St. Joseph’s University in 1999.  He is currently a practicing physician with Resnick, Greenspan and Freilich Gastroenterology Associates in Philadelphia.  Michael was elected to the School Board in November 2007.

Sara Johnson Rothman

Sara was appointed to the Board in February of 2014.  She is married to Scott and has 2 children.  They recently moved to Upper Dublin in large part due to the excellent reputation of the school district.  Sara is the proud product of public schools from kindergarten through law school.  She graduated from the University of Nebraska with a B.A. in History (2001) and Temple University – Beasley School of Law (2005).  Sara has devoted her career to public service serving as a prosecutor specializing in child abuse until 2012.

Mark Sirota

Mark and his wife Michelle have lived in Upper Dublin since 1998. Their two children attend Sandy Run Middle School. Mark has served the District as a member of the Educational Advisory Committee (EAC), Technology Advisory Committee (TAC), Social Communications Policy Committee, and as the vice president of Upper Dublin PAGE (Pennsylvania Association for Gifted Education). He has been working at the University of Pennsylvania since 1996, currently specializing in authentication, authorization, identity management, and related information security and privacy issues. His hobbies include photography, motorsports, and skiing.


Robert Kim

Robert and his wife Wonmin have resided in Upper Dublin since 2005 choosing to live in Upper Dublin because of its schools.  Together, they have three children in the District. Robert served on the Strategic Planning Committee and coaches several sports teams in Upper Dublin. He holds degrees from the University of California at Irvine (B.A. in Sociology 1996), Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary (Master of Divinity, 1999), Fuller Theological Seminary (Master of Theology in Intercultural Studies, 2007), and Reformed Theological Seminary (Doctor of Ministry, 2017). Robert has served as lead pastor of Gracepoint Church since 2006.
