Community members of all ages have many opportunities during the school year and summer months to participate in instructional programs, certification courses and open recreation swims at the Upper Dublin High School Natatorium.

THE POOL WILL BE CLOSED DURING AUGUST - COMMUNITY PROGRAMS BEGIN IN SEPT.

EMPLOYMENT - CERTIFIED WATER SAFETY INSTRUCTORS (WSIs) ARE ALWAYS NEEDED!

Are you a certified lifeguard or Water Safety Instructor?  Are you an aquatics program instructor? Are you an experience aquatics supervisor? If you are seeking employment in an aquatics environment please consider submitting an Employment Interest Form (below). 

Applications will be accepted throughout the school year to fill staff openings as they occur.

FAMILY & CHILDREN'S PROGRAMS

 

Open Rec Swims / Birthday Party Groups

Enjoy supervised use of the UDHS pool including open swim/play areas, lap lanes and the diving area (1-meter board only). All ages welcome; children ages 7 and under must be accompanied in the pool by an adult age 18+; swim diapers are required for children not yet potty trained. This is a drop-in/pay-as-you-go program; no pre-registration is required.

  • SCHOOL YEAR DAYS / TIMES: 
    • YEAR-ROUND - Fridays from 7am-9pm - will resume Sept. 11 (see blackout date exceptions)
    • FALL - Saturdays from 9am-12noon - Sept. 12 to Nov. 21 (see blackout date exceptions)
  • FEES:
    • $5 – Adults
    • $4 – Students/Children ages 4 and up/Students to age 21 with ID
    • SEASON PASS HOLDERS – No Additional Charge (20-visit Summer Passes go on sale 6/15; purchase on deck from the on-duty supervisor, cash or check payable to UDSD)
    • SEASONED CARDINAL PASS HOLDERS – FREE!
  • “BLACK-OUT DATES” - Open Rec Swim is canceled on the following dates due to school events, special community events or holiday closures. The list will be updated as needed.

BIRTHDAY PARTIES, YOUTH GROUPS, SCOUT GROUPS and other groups of 10 or more planning to visit during Open Rec Swim are asked to call at least 2 weeks in advance to check the schedule and reserve a space. Children's Learn-to-Swim Program (ages 5+) - NO FALL PROGRAM

American Red Cross progressive 1-hour group swimming lessons are offered. Children must be min. age 5 to participate.  Look for information about Winter and Spring LTS Programs, posted in early November.

 
SCUBA Instruction (ages 12+)

Is learning to SCUBA dive something you think you'd like? It can't get more convenient than a course offered at the UDHS Pool!  Course fee includes pool fee, rental fee for equipment used in the pool, book packet, training fee and certification or referral fee. Additional fees will be charged for anyone making the checkout dive through Diver’s Den North at Dutch Springs (equipment rental fee, checkout fee and entry fee).  Instructors provided by Diver's Den North.  If you have specific questions about the content of the program, call Diver's Den North at (215) 361-8181.

Private Swim/Dive Lessons

30-minute private (one-on-one) lessons offered to anyone ages 3 to adult in partnership with the Upper Dublin Aquatic Club (UDAC). Visit www.udac.us to register, pay and select an instructor. Lessons are scheduled between you and the instructor once online payment is received. Semi-private lessons are not offered. ADULT PROGRAMS - ages 18+ 

 

School Year Lap Swims begin Monday, September 14

    • Mondays thru Thursday from 8:30pm-9:30pm
    • Fridays from 7:00pm-8:00pm
    • Saturdays from 9:00am-12:00n (Sept. 12-Nov. 21)

    • $5 per person per visit
    • No Charge - Seasoned Cardinal Passholders and Pool Season Passholders

BLACK-OUT DATES:

Lap Swim is canceled on the following dates due to special community events or holiday closures. The list will be updated as needed throughout the summer. Please be aware there will be other user groups and Open Rec Swim during lap swim.

Adult Swim Instruction - NEXT COURSE WILL BE IN THE FALL

Join others for small group instruction.  This class is designed for non-swimmers, beginners and those looking to improve their strokes.  A min. of 4 and max. 6 students will be accepted in to each session.  The instructor is Ms. Marianne Miller.  

  • DAY/DATES:   will be posted in August
  • TIME:  7:00-8:00pm
  • FEES:  $10/lesson for UD Residents / $12/lesson for Others  (must sign up for at least 3 lessons)

It is preferred that signed forms and fees are sent in ahead of time but if time doesn’t permit, they will be collected on the first night of your attendance. Shallow Water Aerobics  (ages 12+ are welcome with a participating adult) - next program begins in Sept!

Join others who are learning how this low impact workout in shallow water progressively builds strength, flexibility and endurance. The program incorporates the use of floating barbells and noodles along with water as resistance. Equipment is provided. No swimming ability is needed. The instructor is Ms. Kathy Mastropietro

  • DAY /DATES:   
    • School Year Program - Wednesdays, begininng Sept. 16 
  • Drop-in any Wednesday to "try out" SWA during the current session; registration forms are available on deck 
  • TIME:  8:00-8:45pm
  • FEES:
    • Pay-As-You-Go/Drop-in - $8/week UD Resident / $10/week Others
  • REGISTRATION FORM:  will be posted in August

Signed forms and fees will be collected on deck.  One form is needed for the summer.

Triathlon Swim Training

Whether taking on your first triathlon or you're a veteran looking to improve your swim time, this swim training will help. Work on techniques to improve speed and efficiency while also building endurance. Open water swim drills are included; learn techniques that will prepare you for race day. All swim levels are welcome but participants must be able to swim 25 yards in any stroke and be comfortable in 6’ of water. Please supply your own goggles and swim cap. The instructor is Coach Marcy Gialdo, Certified USA Triathlon Coach.

AMERICAN RED CROSS CERTIFICATION PROGRAMS

 
Lifeguard Certification Courses for NEW Lifeguards - next course will be spring 2016
(to become a certified lifeguard; min. age 15 on the last day of the course)

One summer course option remains for American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification. Participants must be able to attend all classes during the course for which they register.  The course is held at the UDHS Athletic Complex and follow signs to the classrooms. Be prepared for classroom and in-water work each day. 6 min./10 max. each course.  

 
 
 
Lifeguard Review / Re-Certification (current lifeguards with credentials ready to expire) - check back for Winter Break and Spring classes

Are you an American Red Cross certified lifeguard with credentials due to expire? Enroll is this class to update credentials that will be "good" for the next 2 years.  The American Red Cross has changed its requirements for Lifeguard Recertification to include 13 hours of classroom and in-pool review that includes written and skills tests.

Each participant must supply their own:

    1. rescue masks - adult/child ($14) & pediatric ($6)  AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE AT FIRST CLASS; exact cash is appreciated
    2. Manual (find a digital version online at www.redcross.org)
    3. Proof of current Lifeguard certification (card may not have expired more than 30 days before the first class meeting).

You must attend the entire course and pass all skills and written tests. There are no refunds once the class is confirmed.  Enter at the UDHS Athletic Complex and follow signs to the classrooms. Be prepared for classroom and in-water work each day.

  • WHEN:   Beat the spring rush & obtain your recertification over Winter Break 2016!  Check back in early December for dates/times.   Email Mrs. Lohoefer to have your name placed on a notification list.

Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Certification Course - (min. age 16; lifeguard cert. not required)

  • COURSE DESCRIPTION: If you are at least 16 years old and a proficient swimmer, you can become an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor. This course will help you teach skills that may save a life, gain terrific work experience as an aquatics professional, earn money or join a volunteer team while you help people learn valuable skills. This is a blended learning class which means there is online work required before and during the course; for your convenience, this reduces the number of hours onsite but still meets the ARC requirements for certification. The cost incudes all materials, books and ARC course fees.  Participants will be asked to demonstrate swimming skills in the following strokes: Front Crawl - 25 yards; Back Crawl - 25 yards; Breaststroke - 25 yards; Elementary backstroke - 25 yards; Sidestroke - 25 yards; Butterfly - 15 yards; asked to maintain position on back for 1 minute in deep water (floating or sculling); and asked to tread water for 1 minute.

UPPER DUBLIN AQUATIC CLUB (UDAC)


 

 

Competitive Swimming and Diving

UDAC believes that every child can achieve life-long success through aquatics. UDAC's team-oriented philosophy enables us to provide a nurturing environment for everyone, from novice to national qualifier. Our program of comprehensive skills instruction, along with multiple levels of competitive opportunities, encourages all of our athletes to pursue personal excellence through teamwork in the sports of competitive swimming and diving. UDAC is a member of the Suburban Aquatic League (SAL) and Middle Atlantic Swimming, offering local dual-meet age-group competition (Oct-Feb) plus year-round USA Swimming and AAU Diving training and competition at all levels. UDAC also offers a pre-team program for those children who want to participate in the competitive program, but first need additional work on their strokes, strength and/or stamina.

Water Polo

Visit the UDAC website www.udac.us for information about winter and spring clinics, spring high school afternoon workouts, spring Monday & Thursday night workouts for middle school and older elementary students, the spring league and the summer national tournament hosted in Upper Dublin in mid-July. MONTGOMERY COUNTY SPECIAL OLYMPICS

The UDHS Pool is a training site for a Developmental Swim Program and for athletes who compete in the Special Olympics as part of SPECIAL OLYMPICS MONTGOMERY COUNTY. Athletes train with coach-buddies on Tuesday nights from 7-8pm from October to May. For more information about the program – for athletes and those interested in volunteering as a coach-buddy – please contact the Special Olympics Montgomery County Office at (215) 542-1140.
