Help with Personal Issues

Upper Dublin High School prides itself on being a very supportive community. There are many people and programs available to help students cope with difficult and stressful life situations.

Guidance Counselors are trained to assist students and families with a wide range of issues. If you need help, or are concerned about your child or a friend, talk to your counselor. He or she will assist you, or refer you to the appropriate resources in school or the community.

Behavioral Health Coordinator

Joanne DeGirolamo works with staff, parents and students to ensure optimal education potential and success for all students by providing education, consultation and counseling.  Topics include adolescent developmental issues, mental health concerns and substance use.  Students can meet with Mrs. DeGirolamo based on self-referral, peer or staff referral. Counseling is confidential and available on an individual or small group basis. Mrs. DeGirolamo may be contacted at 215-643-8900 or jdegirol@udsd.org.

Student Assistance Program (SAP)

In Pennsylvania, a Student Assistance Program (SAP) is available in all schools to provide help to students with specific issues that might be interfering with learning.  The SAP team at Upper Dublin High School is made up of administrators, counselors, teachers and the school nurse who have been trained to intervene with students who are dealing with alcohol/drug use, suicidal ideation, depression or anger issues. Through an agreement with Northwestern Human Services, students may obtain an assessment (at no cost to the family), and be referred to appropriate counseling resources in school or the community.  Referrals are provided through self-referral, peers, teachers, guidance, administration and parents. To make a SAP referral, please click the following link.  If you have an immediate crisis or concern please contact your child’s school counselor or Mrs. DeGirolamo, Behavioral Health Coordinator in the Guidance Office.

Procedure As Required By The Pennsylvania Department Of Labor:

      • Working papers are processed through the Guidance Department, 215-643-8900 ext. 2011.  Hours are 7:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Monday through Friday. (This also applies during the summer.)
      • If you are a student at Upper Dublin High School, you do not need proof of age.   Once applications are obtained they must be returned with signature of parent or legal guardian; then the work permit will be issued and signed by the student.
      • If the student is NOT enrolled at Upper Dublin High School and is at least 14 years of age, proof of age must be provided (acceptable documentation may be birth certificate, baptismal certificate, or passport).  If both the student and the parent or legal guardian come together the whole process can be completed at that time.
