Fifth graders at Fort Washington Elementary began the year reading Eleven by Tom Rogers—a powerful story that explores a young boy’s experience during the events of
September 11, 2001. Recently, students had the incredible opportunity to meet the Emmy Award-winning screenwriter and author. He shared insights into his writing process, emphasized patience and persistence in editing, and answered thoughtful student questions about storytelling and history. It was an inspiring visit that deepened students’ understanding of both the history of 9/11 and the art of writing.
