Our fifth-grade study of "Eleven" by Tom Rogers continues across Upper Dublin schools. Shown here at Jarrettown Elementary, Ms. Lawrence’s students are exploring a range of projects designed to deepen their understanding of this story, which captures the events of September 11 through the lens of an eleven year old boy.
The students wrote letters to first responders, reflecting on the importance of their roles during 9/11 and expressing their gratitude. They created illustrations depicting scenes from the story and wrote essays explaining why those moments were meaningful to them. Some even took their creativity a step further by rewriting the novel's ending.
Through each project, students are connecting with the story while using writing, reflection and creativity to explore its themes.
