Hello and welcome to Thomas Fitzwater! I am Kaitlyn Costanzo, the school counselor. I am so happy to be the counselor of our amazing Cheetahs. I began working for TFES at the beginning of the 2018-2019 school year. Throughout my time, I have had the pleasure of meeting and working with many students and families. I am here to support our students, families, and staff in various ways.

When I am not working, I love spending time with my family and friends. My husband and I welcomed our first son in 2022 and we love spending time together with him and our dog, Brutus. You can most likely find us outside walking/hiking, relaxing on the couch, or eating our favorite donuts from Yum Yum Bake Shop!

Role of the School Counselor

I am here to help you and your child have a successful school year! The role of a school counselor is to help students handle issues that may impact their academic performance. As school counselors, we work with students, teachers, and parents through a variety of services. Each service is aimed at helping children achieve and realize their full potential.

Some of the services in the School Counseling Program

Classroom lessons using our MindUp curriculum. MindUp is an evidence-based program consisting of a series of lessons that work
together to build a scaffolding of awareness and skills necessary to increase prosocial behavior, executive functioning, and social and emotional competence.
Individual and group counseling sessions to assist children to support learning skills that may be related to interpersonal relationships, problem solving, worry, and more. Group and individual opportunities are based on needs present.
Consultation with teachers/parent/administrators to help with challenges in the classroom
Facilitation of the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) Team Meetings to address the academic, behavioral, social/emotional needs of students.

Cheetahs Cares

Cheetahs Care assists families with supporting their children, who attend Thomas Fitzwater, through financial hardships with school-related expenses. Cheetahs Care is made up of the school counselor, principal, and PTO members who work to support students and their families in times of need. We connect families with available community resources and offer our support in various ways. Ways in which we have been able to help include providing school supplies, providing soft pretzels, covering field trip expenses, offering Thanksgiving food baskets, and assisting with Winter Wishes (holiday gifts).

If you are experiencing financial hardship and are in need of extra support, please know we are here to help. We will do our best to support your child(ren) who attends TFES. Please know that we are limited in the types of support we can offer and can only offer support to those directly attending TFES, but we will do our best! Additionally, through Cheetahs Care, we can support you by connecting you with additional community resources.
