upper dublin education association announcement

The Upper Dublin School District (UDSD) and its teachers’ association, the Upper Dublin Education Association (UDEA), announced on Monday that they have reached a tentative agreement on a new two-year contract, following early bird negotiations conducted throughout the summer.

The current contract between UDSD and UDEA is set to expire on June 30, 2026, making this agreement the result of what is known as “early bird negotiations”—a process voluntarily initiated well in advance of a contract’s expiration. This approach enables both parties to engage proactively, prioritize key bargaining interests, and reach a mutually beneficial agreement without the constraints of last-minute negotiations.

The new agreement, pending ratification by UDEA membership and approval by the Board of School Directors, would take effect at the end of the current contract, on July 1, 2026.

In a joint message to all UDSD staff during the district’s opening convocation, Superintendent Dr. Laurie Smith, School Board President Mr. Jeffrey Wallack, and UDEA Co-Presidents Doug Sample and Samantha Erickson expressed appreciation for the dedication, professionalism, and collaborative spirit demonstrated by both negotiating teams.

The Association membership will be presented with the details of the tentative agreement on August 26, 2025 and will then hold a ratification vote two days later. The Board of School Directors will then vote on the agreement during its regular meeting on September 29, 2025. Details about the Upper Dublin School District board meetings can be found here.

“I am heartened by the collaboration that brought us to this tentative agreement,” said Dr. Smith. “This progress strengthens our commitment to our top priority: inspiring and empowering our students.”
