Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the US. It marks June 19, 1865: the day that Union Army Maj. Gen. Granger rode into Galveston, TX, and issued General Order No. 3, proclaiming that the slaves were free.

Tomorrow (6/19) is Juneteenth, the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the US. From its Galveston, Texas origin in 1865, the observance of June 19th as the African American Emancipation Day has spread across the United States and beyond.

We congratulate our 2022 retirees and wish them all the best! Our entire District thanks them for their years of dedicated service to our children, our District, and our community!
