Our STEM Academy is in full swing! Some of the tools being used are: Strawbees, Sam Labs, MakeyMakey, Soundtrap, WeVideo, Edison robots. Low-tech building and builprinting are also activities in which students are engaging.
The modulars are starting to arrive at FWES. They will be attached to the building. The recovery and renovation work is in full swing! We will share periodic updates as the work continues.

UDEF GRANT SPOTLIGHT - "Cultivating Personal Literacy through Social Relationships" was a big hit this year and will evolve into student-led book clubs in SY 22-23. This was made possible by a grant awarded to Jennifer Lankin, Hannah Kim, Laurie McGettigan, and Sam Connelly.

Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the US. It marks June 19, 1865: the day that Union Army Maj. Gen. Granger rode into Galveston, TX, and issued General Order No. 3, proclaiming that the slaves were free.

Tomorrow (6/19) is Juneteenth, the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the US.
From its Galveston, Texas origin in 1865, the observance of June 19th as the African American Emancipation Day has spread across the United States and beyond.
